Emmanuelle Delpech performs in a red clown nose.

Red-Nose Clown

Acclaimed performer, director, and teacher Emmanuelle Delpech invites you to wear a red nose and explore the personal and exhilarating territory of the clown. The clown has been at the core of so much of Pig Iron’s performance research, and this practice is an adventure into idiocy, virtuosity, ridiculousness, absurd logic and comic vulnerability. The clown breaks all the rules of theatre and breaks even more rules in Zoom! Delpech’s clown-study proposes a new order in which the performer taps into a deep well of their own humanity and shares it with an audience. We laugh with the clown (and sometimes AT the clown) because they speak a simple truth: that all human beings fail gloriously and often hilariously.

WHO IS IT FOR:
Restless actors seeking a new approach; clowns and comic performers looking to deploy their skills in unconventional ways; creators of original performance.

MATERIALS:
Students will need a red clown nose (rubber, with elastic–not foam) and access to some clothes that generate strong emotions. Pig Iron will happily ship you a clown nose, but please note that during COVID and under the tragicomic reign of Postmaster Dejoy, we can’t guarantee quick shipping times.
